Online BSL courses to suit your needs
Whether you want to learn signing for fun or to change your career, we have
sign language courses to meet your needs. We run BSL courses because we
provide support to our local Deaf community – so you can help yourself and
others by learning BSL!

Click on the course links to see the online course content. You can choose to
do each level as a stand-alone course or you can combine your course with
live tutorials (Tuesdays: Level 3, Wednesday: Level 2 or Thursdays: Level 1).
Tutorials are weekly in small groups of no more than six.
We also provide free BSL sessions on Sunday evenings with our BSL course
co-ordinator, Bob Rose. The free online BSL sessions support your learning if
you attend a BSL course elsewhere.

Who are Access Ambassadors?
We are a non profit organisation based in Milton Keynes. Our tutors have run
BSL courses for nearly 20 years. Our course are usually classroom-based
courses. However, due to Covid-19, we now offer accredited BSL courses
online. We are trying ‘blended learning’ which is something new for us.
Blended learning means you get the best of both worlds – online resources
accessible 24/7 and live tutorials via Zoom with a qualified tutor. Our courses
are accredited by iBSL; an awarding body that is regulated by Ofsted and is
one of the two awarding bodies that delivers recognised BSL qualifications.
Milton Keynes Deaf Community
Did you know we are a non-profit organisation? Your course fees help us
support Milton Keynes Deaf Community. We have a significant number of
deaf people of all ages who are native sign language users. At the last count,
we had over 1,000 BSL users within a 50-mile radius of Milton Keynes.
With your course fees, we are able to provide communication support to
individual BSL users. The range of support includes providing interpreting
support, translating letters (English to BSL), signposting to services (e.g. the
Citizens Advice Bureau) and benefit enquiries.
We also do more focussed activities by running grant funded programmes
such as employability courses. To date, we have put an additional £200,000
into the local economy by supporting over 30 profoundly deaf people into
BSL courses – enhancing your career prospects
BSL qualifications enhance your career prospects. By learning BSL, you
immediately make any employer accessible to a wider audience.
There are also a number of careers you can go into with an additional
language. BSL is particularly useful for the following careers:
- SEN teacher
- Teacher of the Deaf
- Speech and language therapist
- Communication Support Worker
- Care assistant
- BSL interpeter
Online BSL courses are a great step to a more fulfilling career. Our online
courses enable you to go from complete beginner to a fluent BSL user. We
also offer free opportunities to practise in groups.
BSL learners based in and around Milton Keynes can also participate in
community activities. You can find out more about participating in social
activities by looking at our Facebook page.
